Summer Camps

The purpose of the Global Friends Camp is to provide authentic acquisition of the English Language, with an emphasis on multicultural awareness. Students will learn through hands-on activities by native speaking instructors in a summer camp setting.

Offerings

• Students will attend two hours of basic language instruction to include: reading, writing, grammar/structure, and spoken.

• 
  Students will attend a one-hour elective class chosen by the student and parents at registration. Offered classes will depend on enrollment and availability.

• 
  Students will participate in a one hour related seminar at the end of the planned extra-curricular activity. This seminar will reinforce language learning through vocabulary and discussion of the day’s featured activity.

• Three levels will be offered. We will title these levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Upper-Intermediate. An advanced level will be offered when applicable.

• Students will be expected to spend thirty minutes to an hour each night in preparation for the next day. Some staff will be available for designated study/tutoring sessions daily.

• Each student’s present level of language proficiency will be assessed prior to the first class. Students will be grouped according to their current level to maximize the learning experience. At the last class, each student’s language proficiency will be assessed using various tools. Assessments will be available for the parents to retain after completion of the camp.

• At the culmination of the camp, each class will make a presentation that parents will be invited to attend, and each student will be given a certificate of completion.

The Global Friends Staff

• Our staff includes both teaching staff members and support staff members.

• All teachers are certified teachers holding four year degrees or higher. Each teacher has a minimum of five years teaching experience, either on the elementary or secondary teaching level.

• Two staff members will be available for daily tutoring or homework sessions as needed.

• Staff will live in appropriate dormitory housing with students, but in separate quarters if applicable. (**Residential camps only**)
